It took about a month and 1 week to finish the scroll. The customer wanted the scroll that had their last name DeAngelis as an anniversary gift. This is the last of this Crane cloth that I have. The crane is a symbol of a good, long lasting marriage in Japanese culture. Very appropriate. The calligraphy was done by my wife Yoshimi "Ryugyoku" Maples. It is finished with ivory plastic jikusaki and the Kodai Saniro Hanging string. It looks like plum blossoms to me, but I am unsure. I framed this in a Rinpou Hyougu style, and selected some light green in the Ichimonji cloth and blue, pure silk chuumawashi in order to accentuate a cool feeling to the painting as early spring is typically the time when the plum flowers. The narrow Hashira help to accentuate the painting, and a light khaki mixed silk solid was used for the Ten/Chi.<p></p><p>If you would like a painting or calligraphy mounted please contact sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com or call or text to 801-214-4064.</p>Kakejikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14110198494478216226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-283356217855563365.post-48676796831182970812023-06-07T18:14:00.001-06:002023-06-07T18:14:51.037-06:00Torn Tachi Scroll Repair<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjderPvsm4W1i5dQz1yfLQc2-o0ttOLDoJQTWQ30JmzKW03LrrKYEYcUlVy3PLCEHtwI96HHKfKf1RTZgSNe8N-koF4NXOqgTDVXrgHSY2jL6JF4oo68hovTK1QVr-VDzM2DD9dyCiDOTx-WYfQkACbyYE-7Jwzz1ByafMc65bqQyYfXKV3cMezRxaB/s4160/tachi%20remount.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4160" data-original-width="1095" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjderPvsm4W1i5dQz1yfLQc2-o0ttOLDoJQTWQ30JmzKW03LrrKYEYcUlVy3PLCEHtwI96HHKfKf1RTZgSNe8N-koF4NXOqgTDVXrgHSY2jL6JF4oo68hovTK1QVr-VDzM2DD9dyCiDOTx-WYfQkACbyYE-7Jwzz1ByafMc65bqQyYfXKV3cMezRxaB/w168-h640/tachi%20remount.jpg" width="168" /></a></div><div style="text-align: right;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjANVIKAl49Y-w0r_nDyBWA7bPUJeqBIku8AdB8X7VtHh8dE7vXFkASqph2j3l9dEyGnadT8GUjGqQ821ZuOoUG3QXb6y1Z5L1GaZE7fz6Go3n92VQNrYTdB9v3Mx-NRbjhhmyHWtD2KfJyXDBWUz-Xu71P3c15kUbQNZ0IIHNkwXHyVWrLOuqGlEiq/s2048/Tachi%20Torn%20in%20Half.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjANVIKAl49Y-w0r_nDyBWA7bPUJeqBIku8AdB8X7VtHh8dE7vXFkASqph2j3l9dEyGnadT8GUjGqQ821ZuOoUG3QXb6y1Z5L1GaZE7fz6Go3n92VQNrYTdB9v3Mx-NRbjhhmyHWtD2KfJyXDBWUz-Xu71P3c15kUbQNZ0IIHNkwXHyVWrLOuqGlEiq/s320/Tachi%20Torn%20in%20Half.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Customer asked for a miracle. The photo to the left is a picture of the scroll as I received it from the customer. I was very worried if I could take the scroll apart and remount it with minimal scarring or made to be seen that it was repaired. Muga means Egoless or no self in English. The deeper meaning would need to be explained by the Roshi themself, as I am not very versed in Buddhist teachings. Because it is a religious piece of work, I recommended that we mount it in the Butsu Hyougu style. It has an ichimonji with a cloud motif, with a small brown suji bordering that and the artwork. It is then surround by a small gold karakusa kinran cloth. Again bordered by the brown suji, and finally the outer cloth. I think it turned out beautifully, and hopes it aids the practitioners in their meditation and other rituals. Very dynamic and beautiful pieces with strong color. Currently they are in a Sandan Hyougu format, but may be putting fuutai on the scrolls if the customer wants them applied. The Ten and Chi is a Mixed Silk Earth Brown. The Chumawahsi cloth is a green/yellow with a slight wave pattern. The Ichimonji is a deep gold with a very faint flower arabesque. I wanted to use very inconspicuous cloths so the paintings would be highlighted. It is finished with a Deep Gold Kakehimo, and a metallic two tone ceramic jikusaki to help complement the background of the paintings.<p></p><p>If you would like to order a custom scroll please email to sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com or call or text 801-214-4064.</p>Kakejikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14110198494478216226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-283356217855563365.post-85975812420958745792023-01-09T18:50:00.005-07:002023-01-09T18:50:52.179-07:00Full Moon Sumie in Sandan Hyougu <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbeS1NrWiwjTdBzV3Qzbt_vOTCYJl5uFcCx102_L_UV4h27oad3Kxj0goUGTTVeQggFw8toQvjZMtK-y4VD8VeuXTXqiJCax8ZPjmBRhaHxS1NXCnUkE4m1rqb55HEzFMwmmVgeaEyMo18aviuIu3Mv1CMoiJRDNbQffEEuSvf1n-VLZPle5k-OGJV/s2156/Full%20Moon%20Sumie%20Sandan%20Hyougu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2156" data-original-width="2095" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbeS1NrWiwjTdBzV3Qzbt_vOTCYJl5uFcCx102_L_UV4h27oad3Kxj0goUGTTVeQggFw8toQvjZMtK-y4VD8VeuXTXqiJCax8ZPjmBRhaHxS1NXCnUkE4m1rqb55HEzFMwmmVgeaEyMo18aviuIu3Mv1CMoiJRDNbQffEEuSvf1n-VLZPle5k-OGJV/s320/Full%20Moon%20Sumie%20Sandan%20Hyougu.jpg" width="311" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><br />This wallscroll is a full moon painted by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000163721982">Vinh Bui</a> The painting is specifically for a bonsai display type of scroll. The theme for the youth this year is in the New Testament <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/philip/4?lang=eng&id=p13#p13" target="_blank">Phillipians 4:13</a>, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. So the leaders asked my wife to write the character for Strong. I then asked the leader which cloth they wanted to utilize for the scroll and they selected this blue donsu that has a nomi pattern. To complement the strong theme, in the church there is a hymn called "<a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/music/library/hymns/for-the-strength-of-the-hills?lang=eng" target="_blank">For the Strength of the Hills</a>" That is the reason I used a mountain or hill pattern gold Ichimonji cloth. The scroll is finished with a lacquere jikusaki and the takuboku hanging string. Some other scriptures for the kakejiku related to strength, hills and reliance on Christ are the following:<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO64ze8pb_5ydFLvtIBP04Ls_wuddXKGXKTbFkHpFjgjnfLf5aoqWJMdWcxWd1uahSXa2L2v3UG-HcxvQIAh2oDY6eYJ0AdD1JjSLAXLg1i_o5S_MrCeEbqIvW3vMNiOYreiZrArHSft2ZqzueXl2tzwfMOS8qFNHxwoB3cPWrB3EHQ_kpuXO1hn_r/s3264/Strength%20Nomi%20Closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO64ze8pb_5ydFLvtIBP04Ls_wuddXKGXKTbFkHpFjgjnfLf5aoqWJMdWcxWd1uahSXa2L2v3UG-HcxvQIAh2oDY6eYJ0AdD1JjSLAXLg1i_o5S_MrCeEbqIvW3vMNiOYreiZrArHSft2ZqzueXl2tzwfMOS8qFNHxwoB3cPWrB3EHQ_kpuXO1hn_r/s320/Strength%20Nomi%20Closeup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>Hymn: <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/music/library/hymns/there-is-a-green-hill-far-away?lang=eng" target="_blank">There is a Green Hill Far Away</a></p><p>Old Testament: <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/ot/ps/24?lang=eng" target="_blank">Psalm 24:3</a></p><p>New Testament: <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/matt/5?lang=eng">Matthew 5:4</a></p><p>Doctrine and Covenants: <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/49?lang=eng" target="_blank">49:5</a></p>Kakejikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14110198494478216226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-283356217855563365.post-4925614351335056582022-12-15T16:56:00.003-07:002022-12-15T16:56:18.459-07:00Japanese Calligraphy Kakejiku<p></p><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJxzj-qXLSVizNXT1E_mlswpeztFU-yt35Z_wA8DsGJpR-W7buYGAEUyhswgJbO7UngXHJ8JSh9ZG_KgAkPLH0GigY1NUkhpO5yViW6nDuRuDyYYAYXYXXTLYbnAQxVxISnRu0TeWoBXAL02mRSELhfADVUP8V1ci-ooD8jkWuQdDGGh3EHasBpQb/s4000/Japanese%20Calligraphy%20Scroll%20Love%20Poem.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="2000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJxzj-qXLSVizNXT1E_mlswpeztFU-yt35Z_wA8DsGJpR-W7buYGAEUyhswgJbO7UngXHJ8JSh9ZG_KgAkPLH0GigY1NUkhpO5yViW6nDuRuDyYYAYXYXXTLYbnAQxVxISnRu0TeWoBXAL02mRSELhfADVUP8V1ci-ooD8jkWuQdDGGh3EHasBpQb/w320-h640/Japanese%20Calligraphy%20Scroll%20Love%20Poem.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>This kakejiku or wallscroll reads When You Have Love, Luck is Not Needed. In Japanese the characters are 愛有運不要 The customer wanted to give this as a Christmas gift. They said the recipient really likes Cherry Blossom season in Japan, so I utilized this beautiful pure silk with a cherry blossom motif. The Ichimonji is a Gold arabesque on a cream color cloth. The Jikusaki are plastic and the hanging string is a light purple called Fuji.
