Tools and Materials from Japan

I thought some of my followers would be interested in seeing some of the items imported from Japan that I use to make scrolls.

On the left is a noribake glue brush, 1 Box of wood jikusaki, and 1 box of ceramic Jikusaki. A large box of plastic ivory jikusaki. In the back is a new roll of Urauchishi or backing paper. The light blue item is Fukushima Ginu (Fukushima silk) used to do a technique called uwamaki. There is also some powder glue....which most westerners call rice glue.

Hope you enjoy, and if you have questions email to sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com or call to 801-214-4064.

Abstract Painting Wallscroll

If you would like a custom wallscroll or kakejiku made please contact to 801-214-4064 or email to info@tapestryframe.com This watercolor was painted by Ming Franz in a Po Mo style, and framed by myself. The painting reminds me of the many different colors that can be experienced at a sunset at different times. I used a more simple frame style called Nidan Hyougu (二段表具)in Japanese. Two cloths were utilized, the middle cloth called Chuumawashi (中廻し) in Japanese is a mixed sythetic cloth of Acetate and Rayon. It is called Tobitori Shoku飛鳥織. The Ten and Chi (Top and Bottom cloth) is a style of cloth called Shike (The Kanji is too specialized) in a cool shade of sage green. The wallscroll is finished with a light gold (薄金茶)hanging string and a cerami dark brown Jikusaki 軸先. Jikusaki are the caps attached to the bottom round dowel. I used the light golds and the cool green color to offset the dominant warm red color in the painting.
