Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Wallscroll

(This scroll is sold and is no longer available.)

In continuing my theme of having scrolls available that would work with North American bonsai, I had this Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep painted by Mariusz Szmerdt. He is very talented, and made this work.

The scroll is made in the Fukuro Hyougu style, with a navy Suji, of 1 bun (about 3mm) surrounding the artwork. It is finished with a Hida Lacquered Jikusaki and a Kon (navy) hanging string.

Coyote Howling at Moon for GSBF

(This scroll is sold and is no longer available.)

This is another scroll made by me and painted by Mariusz Szmerdt specifically for my upcoming workshop at GSBF. It has a very American taste to it, and will play a good role in designing a display. It wasr made in the Nidan Hyougu style with very narrow Hashira (Pillars on the sides of the painting) and will work well with a variety of trees. It has a light gold hanging string, and black lacquer wood jikusaki. The top khaki cloth is a benberugu, and the middle cloth is a pure silk.

Bear with Salmon

(This scroll is sold and is no longer available.)

I made this scroll specifically for an upcoming bonsai convention in which I will be teaching a class on display. It is the subject of telling a story of a season. What season does this indicate to you?

Dojo Wallscroll

This was a scroll for a martial arts dojo on the East Coast. It had some difficulties in that the black cloth that was used, did not turn out alright. So I redid it with a different black cloth and the same result occurred. I was so frustrated that I ended up doing it on a gray cloth that I know would work.

The scroll reads Musha Shugyou Satori (Enlightenment through Martial Arts Training)

It is written in Sousho, semi cursive style by Yoshimi Ryugyoku Yamada. It has a Gold on Red karakusa Ichimonji, Kon (navy) Hanging string, and Shitan (rosewood) Jikusaki.
