This was a kakejiku or Wallscroll made for a customer I met at the Nihon Matsuri in Salt Lake City on April 27, 2019. He wanted me to make a scroll with the mountain cloth and this particular Japanese kotowaza or proverb. It was brushed by my wife Yoshimi Yamada "Ryugyoku" Maples. She is a really talented calligrapher.
Because I had so little of the mountain cloth, I made it into a Sandan Hyougu style scroll. It is completed with ivory plastic jikusaki and the Usukin (light gold) hanging string.

Pair of Japanese Calligraphy Scrolls
These scrolls were made for a customer in Florida. The sayings are from the Karate Kid II movie. I tried to get the cloths to match the ones in the original dojo.
I enjoyed making these for the customer.
If you have a favorite quote or Japanese phrase you would like made into a scroll, please contact to sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com so that I can provide a quote for you.

Butsu Hyougu Style Scroll
This is another painting of the Sanso Collection. I believe it is
number 74, by the painter Sengai. This is the information on the painter
provided by Wikipedia. Sengai
Gibon (仙厓 義梵,
1750–1837) was a Japanese monk of the Rinzai school
(one of three main schools of Zen Buddhism in Japan)
I framed this in the formal style called Butsu Hyougu in order to match the White Robed Kannon (Water Kannon) theme of the painting with the calligraphy. I also used the traditional Kin Jikusaki and the top kin on the Hassou, to match the elegance of the painting.
I think it turned out quite beautiful.

Dragon Painted by Customer
This artist lives in Virginia and he has made several scrolls. I guess he was having some difficulty making the scroll for this particular painting, so he sent it to me to have it mounted. I selected the cloths and the jikusaki. I made it into a Yamato Hyougu style.
I think his work is very beautiful and he has great control of his brush. He said he also plays the shamisen.
It is a very beautiful work, and I am thankful he sent it to me to mount into a scroll. If you would like one of your works mounted into a scroll contact to sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com

Sousho Calligraphy In Kakejiku
This is another sample of a customers sousho or full cursive Japanese calligraphy. It was mounted in a sandan Hyougu style, to help bring a little austerity to the informality of the writing.
If you would like a piece or art, photograph, or have us write calligraphy for you and framed into a wallscroll with beautiful, unique silks imported from Japan, please contact Jonathan Maples at sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com

Customer Wallscroll
This calligraphy was brushed by an artist in the midwest. They sent this to me for mounting. I mounted this in a Fukuro Hyougu style. The simple mounting seems to match the full cursive style of the writing.
It is finished with a ceramic jikusaki and takuboku hanging string.
If you would like to have a custom piece of art mounted into a wallscroll, please contact to me at sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com.
