What is Haboku?

Haboku (破墨) is a Japanese painting technique employed in suiboku (ink based), as seen in landscape paintings, involving an abstract simplification of forms and freedom of brushwork. Generally, haboku relies on a layered contrast black, gray and white. I bring this up because although this is not a landscape painting the contrasts of the blacks, grays, and white in the painting reminded me of this painting style. I enjoyed mounting this painting because it is a little bit smaller and easier to handle.

It is mounted in the Maru Hyougu style, which is an informal frame, and this is in stage 2a.Only 3 more steps to complete.
