Bonsai Tansaku Scroll 2

 
This was a separate order from the Golden State Bonsai Federation show. It is a georgeous cloth, with a simple pattern. The poem in this one is referenced in a previous post for Autumn season. Seifuu Banri no Aki. http://wallscroll.blogspot.com/2011/09/sakuya-issei-no-kari.html Hopefully, we will see this kakejiku also paired and displayed with a bonsai someday.

The scroll is written in Gyousou. A mix of cursive and semi cursive, by Yoshimi Yamada Maples. The scroll is completed with a Shitan (Rosewood) jikusaki and the Kodai Saniro Hanging String.

Bonsai Scroll with Autumn Poem

This kakejiku is done in the Three Step Style called Sandan Hyougu. It has a Gold on Green Ichimonji with a Green Ivy Arabesque Chuumawashi and a khaki Ten/Chi.

明月秋Meigetsu no Aki is a poem or phrase for Autumn. This translation from Japanese to English is completed by Jonathan Maples from page 392 of the 禅語吉語字典 Zengo Kichigo Jiten.

The general meaning is The beauty of the Autumn Moon. Because you live, you exist on the Earth. Because of that you are the master of your soul. It is through how you live that the Earth’s beauty is completed.

 This Zen Buddhist phrase is part of a larger scripture written 月は知る明月の秋、花は知る一様の春 Tsuki wa Shiru Meigetsu no Aki, Hana wa Shiru Issama no Haru. The moon is the symbol of Autumn, and the flower is the symbol of spring. Both know they are the beauty of their season. It is your living that witnesses the beauties of these seasons. 

Humans are the same. There are a diverse and many people living on the earth. Each person has their own will and individuality. Each one also has their own roles on this world. Each person reflects their beauty on this earth by carrying out their role and holding it dear in their heart. Furthermore, the fruits of this earth are gathered through the entire body of the people doing their work on this earth.

Cloudy Moon Scroll

 This is similar to a scroll posted back in April. Both of these kakejiku are already sold. It is the same cloudy moon by Polish Artist Mariusz Szmerdt, but the moon is more obscure and the painting is a little darker. The difference with this scroll is it is done in a three step style called Sandan Hyogu (三段表具）

I used a ginran 銀襴 instead of a kinran 金襴 for the ichimonji bordering the     artwork. This means that this cloth is made with silver filament thread instead of the gold filament thread. It is very beautiful. I used a silver for the chuumawashi of this cloth as well, but the difference is that it has a smaller Karakusa (arabesque) pattern in the cloth. For the Ten/Chi I used a gray/slate colored cloth that has a hint of blue.

The Ichimonji for this scroll has a black lacquer with gold/silver fleck in it. It really adds some extra character to the scroll.

Scroll for Bonsai Artist

It has been about a year and a half since an order for a scroll from a bonsai enthusiast was placed. This scroll is very soothing. It is a nature/serenity poem about the stillness when deep in the woods.

The writing was done in the sousho format. The cloth is bone colored. The Kakehimo is takuboku (which is crow in Japanese. I will repost dimensions tomorrow, but it is a little over four feet.

The Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Stained Shitan (rosewood) jikusaki really add to the overall elegance and character of this scroll. Along with the Deep gold ichimonji used to capture the rays of light reaching one as they are hiking through the forest.

翌檜会 Asunarokai Scroll

This scroll was ordered from Greece. Asunaro is an idiomatic expression in Japanese which means, "Tomorrow, let's become Cypress Trees". Kai is a group, organization or meeting. Cypress tree wood is valued tremendously.

This scroll was made for an Iaido (Katana) school in Greece, but it would also work for a Bonsai club as well. The deep green of the kireji very much brings about the forest feel in standing under the trees you see in Japan. The red ichimonji just seems to make the scroll be very beautiful and large and accentuates the beauty of the Kaisho, block print style written by Ryugyoku.
