Sitting Girl

This is also by artist Patricia Gustafson. This was the largest of her three paintings. I chose to do this in the Fukuro Hyougu format, with the three suji insert into the frame. Woman Portrait

 

This is the second scroll of a woman painted by Patricia Gustafson. This scroll was also made with a donsu (silk) cloth. It has a light gray background with a very small flower arabesque pattern. I felt this cloth being very muted would go well with the various shades of gray and black in the painting. It was completed in the Maru Hyougu style with a Deep Gold arabesque kinran border on the top and the bottom. Sumie of Man Sitting

 

This is by Artist Patricia Gustafson. She requested that I use her name in the blog posts. This is the link to her facebook https://www.facebook.com/patricia.gustafson.77 This picture did not turn out well, so apologies in advance. This scroll was done in the Maru Hyougu format. It features a brown and gold ichimonji border, with a green/yellow wicker pattern cloth. It is a donsu fabric (silk). The reason I selected this cloth was the small pattern and green would be a strong complement to the bold red color in the painting. Sanso #100 by Rosetsu

These next posts will be the last of the scrolls done for the Sanso art collection. This is number 100 in the collection by Japanese artist Rosetsu. Click on the description below to read more about this artist on Wikipedia.

Nagasawa Rosetsu (長沢芦雪, 1754–1799) was an 18th-century (Edo period) Japanese painter of the Maruyama School, known for his versatile style. He was born to the family of a low-ranking samurai. He studied with Maruyama Ōkyo in Kyoto.^[2][3]

This particular scroll was made in the Yamato Hyougu style. Even though the Hashira are very thin, I do not consider this the Rinpou Hyougu style. It is completed with a gold kinran with accompanying fuutai, a blue ivy arabesque Chuumawashi, and a gold arabesque Ten/Chi. I had purchased over 10 years ago some wooden jikusaki that had a black and gold pattern attached on paper. I had never felt this fit for any of my scrolls, but when I saw this painting, I just knew the black and gold reminded me of the Otera in which this bell would reside.

Dragon Wallscroll

This scroll was made for an aritst in New York City. She had two paintings sent to me to frame. Her request to was to do them very simply in the Navy cloth. The kakejiku is a standard Hanshi size paper, which I did not trim significantly. It is completed with a Usukincha, (light gold) hanging string and the Plastic Ivory jikusaki.

Rabbit Sumie Usagi

This microkakejiku is a beautiful piece by Ren Adams. The Usagi is a wise and kind animal in the tale Kachi Kachi Yama, where the rabbit gets revenge on the mean spirited Tanuki.
