Kaki (Persimmon) Sumi-e Scroll

This is a monochrome painting for a suiseki customer in Southern California. It is a beautiful simple scroll, that will go well with an informal
stone. I hope to see the final installation.

I did this in the Fukuro Hyougu style as it is the most simple for me based on what the customer wanted to present. It has a very dull grey/brown cloth that is nice for a fall feeling. It was painted by Mariusz Szmerdt, and he did an excellent job. The jikusaki is a lacquer that has a red orange tint, to help visually reinforce the painting's theme of a Kaki (persimmon). The suji surrounding the artwork and in the Ten and chi is a light gold, usukin. The hanging string is also an usukin.

Mui Scroll

This is another scroll brushed by Richard Man. It is the character Mui, which in Japanese means Idleness or not working. I do not know if it is the same meaning in Chinese. Hopefully, it is not a reference to how late it was to get these works back to him. I want to get them right, and the size that he demands tells me I need to take more time.

The wallscroll is completed in the Maru Hyougu style. With a gold on green Ichimonji and a Shike cloth that is a reed brown for the Ten and Chi. The hashira are narrow, but the 7 bun typically is wider than that seen on a Gyou no Gyou style scroll. A red lacquer wooden jikusaki and the Old 3 color hanging string complete the work.

Karate Dojo Scroll

This wallscroll was made for a martial arts dojo back  on the East Coast. It reads Taikyoku Budo Seiya Dojo. The writing is in Kaisho style. I am not happy with the way it turned out, because I only had about a week to make the scroll. This lends itself to many problems in the production process. I hope it hangs well in the long run. If you would like a custom scroll made please contact to sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com (just give me more than 3 weeks to make it right!)

It has a brown ichimonji with a large karakusa pattern. The cloth is a benberugu green/gold color with a pine or cloud pattern (depending on who you ask). The scroll is finished with a black lacquer wood jikusaki that has a machined groove near the end. The Kakehimo is the Gold cloth, because it goes well with the Ichimonji.

The picture on the right is how it hangs in the customers dojo. I love how it turned out!

Another Richard Man Wallscroll

This is another work by Richard Man.
This looks to me to be the character
In Japanese this can read Yasui or Yasashii which can mean easy. However, it also has a meaning of fortune telling or divination. It looks to be written in Gyousho or Semi-Cursive style.

I made this scroll in the Fukuro Hyougu style, which is simple and elegant. I used a darker gold Suji (ribbon around the artwork) and a lighter reed color cloth. The Hanging string is a Kincha or gold and the Jikusaki are plastic 9 bun pieces.

Obviously he likes his works large this is a chart of the dimensions.

Tansaku Kake Scroll

This is a scroll for a bonsai artist in New York. It is a tansaku kake scroll so the artwork can be switched out. It is not embedded.

It is a benberugu cloth that is light brown, with a raised pattern (敷け?) I really like the pattern, it is soft and simple. I completed the scroll with a Plastic ivory jikusaki and Takuboku hanging string.
