Kireji 裂地

Do you remember the term we used for Hada Urauchi? It is the term for the paper that is attached to the back of the artwork or the back of the cloth. The term for cloth that has the layer of Hada Urauchi attached is Kireji. There are a variety of cloths that are used for creating the wallscrolls. Donsu (a type of silk), Shike (a cloth with raised uneven weave pattern), Shoken (Pure Silk), Men (Cotton) are all used in handmade techniques. These are cloths that will be used in the paintings featured last week.

The Green cloth to the immediate left is a Donsu cloth, that is a mixed silk. It is called Weave Pattern. I have included the picture of the selvedge.

The other cloth looks tan, but it is a gray silver with a leaf pattern that is titled Soushun, which means early spring. This is also a donsu cloth. If you have questions or would like more information my contact is sales@customjapanesecalligraphy.com or info@tapestryframe.com
