A Name Translated into a Kakejiku

This scroll was also made for a customer I met at the Nihon Matsuri in downtown Salt Lake on April 27th. It takes me about a month and a half to create a handmade scroll. The person wanted their name Nativi transliterated into Japanese. So my wife made this translation for the sounds in his name.
Na 成 = To Be or Have
Ti (Chi) 千 = One Thousand
Vi (Bi) 孫 = Descendants

This is on a very nice Pure silk with a cherry blossom design.

Christmas Gift Wallscroll 2

This was a gift that went to the South of the US as a gift for a family Christmas. This was for a military man that will be deployed to Japan. He wanted name translations for his family. How thankful I am for the men and women who serve so diligently, so I can enjoy the freedom and liberty of my life.

I did all the four translations originally, and for the first time, Yoshimi accepted one of my translations...(either I am lucky or getting better at understanding Japanese)
The first is Aaron. The first character is the same as in the Japanese Self Defense Force (Jieitai) and Ron in the character for to argue. Someone who argues for the defense of the country.
Jennifer is the flower that resembles Purity
Tyler is great good
Savannah is the blooming flower

The scroll is written by Ryugyoku, Yoshimi Yamada Maples in the Gyousho or semi cursive style on paper. The scroll is done in a Sandan Hyougu (Three Step) style. It is completed with a rosewood Jikusaki and the Kodai San iro Hanging string.

Last Name Translated into Japanese and Mounted into a Scroll

I was really pleased with the way this kakejiku turned out. The customer selected a beautiful cloth for this wallscroll, and I was really pleased with the look and the feel of this. The last name to translate was Franssen. My wife came up with two, and the customer chose this one. It means 1,000 years of peace. Technically, the first two is no violence, but we used some liberty in having a more positive meaning, which would work in Japanese. It is written in a Semi-cursive Gyousho style by Yoshimi Maples. (Ryugyoku) The new cloths from Japan are very beautiful. You can see the detail, and the beauty of the intricate patterns in the kireji (silk) up close. When something turns out this nice it really makes me happy. There is also a kiribako for this scroll which I will take another picture later on. First Name in Japanese Kakejiku

This wallscroll was ordered for a person who commissioned two scrolls for a wife's and daughter's first name. The first one is with a beautiful light pink Kireji (cloth) that is a silk. The pattern in the cloth is a faint, wispy line, so I tried to use the complementary flowing lines in the ichimonji to complement the design of the cloth.

In most situations, customers do not order special Kakehimo. Hanging thread, but in this case the customer put a lot of thought and ordered the Sakura, which is a pink thread with dark fleck design. It went really well with the scroll, and makes it that much better in my opinion. The shitan (rosewood) jikusaki also provides a good dark color to contrast well with the light pink.

The writing is done in a semi-cursive style called gyousho. It is a very nice design for this scroll. Dimensions of the scroll are listed below.
